Newport News One City Marathon Races Ready for Exciting Weekend

The 10th annual Newport News One City Marathon Weekend, presented by Newport News Shipbuilding, is set to take place this Saturday and Sunday with races, celebrations, and activities for everyone.

"We are thrilled to see the increased participation this year with registration up 25% over last year and runners joining from 36 states, Washington D.C., Canada, and Mexico," shared the event organizers.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the competition, especially the elite field vying for the Half Marathon Title. Among them are the 2023 Women’s Half Marathon Champion, Audrey Belf, and the returning 5K and Half Marathon Champion, Dylan Gearinger.

The event kicks off on Saturday, March 2, with the Sentara Health Plans Maritime 5K at 8 a.m. in Newport News City Center, followed by the Ferguson Nautical Mile Fun Run at 9:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to join the One City Celebration at Tradition Brewing Company in City Center from 8 a.m. to noon for family fun.

On Sunday, March 3, the One City Marathon will begin at 7 a.m. in Newport News Park, with the Victory Arch in downtown’s Yard District serving as the finish line. The certified 26.2-mile flat and fast Boston Marathon-qualifying course will take runners through various cultural amenities, educational institutions, businesses, and neighborhoods. Additionally, the BayPort Credit Union Half Marathon will start at 7 a.m. at Menchville High School.

The weekend will wrap up with the One City Celebration at Coastal Fermentory in The Yard District, offering food, drinks, live music, activities, and vendors from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
